This week;

We are touring Sicily with our pals at Donnafugata - in advance of our first #GrapeToGrainOnTour trip to Sicily we are going on a virtual tour of Tom’s fav Mediterranean island, with incredible producer Donnafugata as our guides!

From the cool slopes of Mount Etna, to the enclave of Vittoria, from the upland plains of Marsala to the sun and sea beaten rock of Pantellaria just off the coast of Tunisia.

Donnafugata’s wine has always rated amongst the highest from Sicily that we have ever tasted and we have some outstanding examples for you tonight…including the ‘Mille e Una Notte’ Nero D’Avola. One of the island trully outstanding wines!!

The wines are delivered to your door, with matched cheeses and we then taste it together online, we will be live streaming on Facebook LIVE and of course on Zoom too!! Banging wines and 2 pillocks hosting...or 2 pillocks and Jen...

The 'portions' are 100ml 'Tasters' and 500ml 'Carafes' or the imperious 'Full Bottle'. Pick the right size for you, your budget and how many guests you have.

All these are subject to change...but...here's the lineup!

- First up we head to the slopes of Mount Etna for the ’Sul Vulcano’ Etna Bianco Carricante.  Donnafugata has 18 hectares on the slopes of Etna. Soils there are volcanic, deep and rich in minerals, and allow strong root growth. These volcanic soils produce a wine that is fresh and savoury, with a distinctive minerality .
- Next we head to the South East of Sicily for the ’Bell’Assai’ Frappato di Vittoria. Frappato is an aromatic red grape from the Vittoria area, on the southern east point of Sicily. Usually used in a blend with Nero d’Avola to make Cerasuolo di Vittoria, this is a rare opportunity to taste this perfumed variety on its own.
- Thirdly it’s to Marsala in the far West of the Island for the ’Mille E Una Notte’ Nero D’Avola. Intense and inviting on the nose, Mille e una Notte opens with an ample bouquet of black fruit notes of blackberry and black mulberry, as well as liquorice and fine spicy hints of black pepper and chocolate. The palate perfectly reflects the nose, with soft and elegant tannins and a lingering finish.
- Finally we head off island, to the tiny island of Pantellaria, to sample the ’Ben Rye’ Passito di Pantellaria. A luscious “passito” sweet wine from the little island of Pantelleria where old Zibibbo vines are grown using the traditional “alberello pantesco” bush-training system. Dried grapes give the intense honey, apricots and almond finish.

Serious wines, for (not very) serious folk...Should be an absolute spanker!!
