Our in-store tastings are BACK BABY!! After a year and half of meeting through Zoom, we can now all meet up and share our love of all things boozy in person...and we are so, so, SO excited!! We have a full program of events coming up!!
Our in-store Tastings have various start times - on Thursdays they will start in both stores at 8pm. On Saturdays they will start in Rammy at 2pm and in Prestwich at 4pm. The LIVE virtual tastings will continue and they will always start at 8pm unless specifically stated otherwise!
Its the return of in-store Prestige Worldwide tastings! And since the weather is set to be fantastic, summer is here, we love a sensual, textural white And its World Chenin Blanc Day…we are going deep on a grape that always brings a smile to our face.
It’s kind of strange really…Chenin has a bad rap…it grows like mad, and cheap, in places like SA so is often the cheapest wine on the menu and that means so many folk see it a a table wine. Now it can be, but in the hands of amazing wine makers it can be as noble as Chardonnay, or as luxurious as Viognier…
From sharp and racy to rich and opulent, still or sparkling…Chenin is the answer to all of your questions!!
No nationwide delivery obviously as these are IN PERSON/IN-STORE tastings only. We still delivery nationwide on our LIVE virtual tastings but this is not one of those tastings!
The 'portions' are 75ml per person unless stated otherwise, and almost always teamed up with a delicious food pairing. There will be lots of opportunity to buy more wine afterwards if you so please...
All these are subject to change...but...here's the lineup!
- First up is Chateau Moncontour Vouvray Brut NV. Little glass of fizzy wizzy to start us off!! 100% Chenin Blanc from the famous Vouvray appellation in the Loire. Pale yellow with green hints. A fresh nose, with white flowers, brioche and apple aromas. Harmonious palate with a nice acidity and finesse.
- Next we are off to Anjou in the Loire to have a sip of the Pithon-Paillé ‘Coteaux des Treilles’ Blanc. Practicing organic Côteau des Treilles is a magnificent southern-exposed vineyard, this Côteau was planted before 1940 and then abandoned during the war as it was too steep to work on. Racy white from the Loire, intense yet delicate, a mouthful of pear and citrus, scattered with fragrant grilled almonds.
-Third up we have a New World expression to show the richness of Chenin, the Bogle Vineyards Chenin Blanc. A producer we know and LOVE here at G2G - Honeyed Californian Chenin Blanc, packed with stone fruits such as peaches and apricots yet with sufficient acidity to keep it fresh. The Bogle hug in full effect.
- Finally the ‘new’ home of Chenin is South Africa, so we have to finish there. We would have gone for the FMC by Ken Forester, but it’s not in the country so we are going EVEN BIGGER with the Raats Family Eden High Density Chenin Blanc. Hand harvested, wild fermented in barrel, aged 11 months in oak on the lees, 50% new oak…I mean this could be a new WINNER!!
Serious wines, for (not very) serious folk...Should be an absolute spanker!!
