Here we go again ladies and gents, the Grape to Grain LIVE tastings continue apace!!! Tom and Baz...and sometimes Jen come to you LIVE....from Prestwich!! Tremendous wines, matched cheeses and a whole load of fun..In In is the new Out Out...Until we can be In whilst Out...shakin' it all about!
Our Friday and Saturday tastings start at 8pm :)
Another instalment of our now legendary Meet the Maker sessions, this time with the King of Chenin and Jen's top crush Ken Forrester!! We have done some of these wines before on previous tastings, but a return to the FMC is NEVER a chore! And to sip along with Ken live from South Africa will give us an insight never previously achieved!
‘Mr. Chenin’ is how Ken Forrester is best known, and rightly so, as he was one of the first to cherish and respect old-vine chenin, to break the mould in terms of vinification style. He still makes a wide range of chenin blancs to suit all palates from his base on the slopes of the Helderberg Mountain.
The wines are delivered to your door, with matched cheeses and we then taste it together online, we will be live streaming on Facebook LIVE and of course on Zoom too!! Banging wines and 2 pillocks hosting...or 1 pillock and Barry...
The 'portions' are 100ml 'Tasters' and 500ml 'Carafes' or the imperious 'Full Bottle'. Pick the right size for you, your budget and how many guests you have.
All these are subject to change...but...here's the lineup!
- First up...The Old Vine Chenin Blanc. Full bodied and well rounded with a complex structure. Bursting with flavours of dried apricots, pineapple and hints of vanilla and honey that last long on the finish. Hand harvested including 3-4% of bunches affected by botrytis. The juice is then fermented in barrel before being left on its lees for 10/12 months.
- Next up is one of the BEST wines we have ever tasted... The FMC! The pinnacle of what we consider to be the finest expression of the grapes of this varietal an icon chenin, a challenge to the world! Rich, layered with dried apricot, vanilla and honey. Will gain additional complexity with cellaring. Natural wild yeast fermentation in new French oak 400 L barrels. Due to repetitive harvesting some botrytis is always present. Maturation on the lees total of 12 months in the barrel.
- Thirdly is a new one for us The Renegade Shiraz/Grenache. An elegant and exotic blend of spicy Shiraz and earthy, rustic Grenache, with nutmeg and cherry and a lovely black olive finish. Fermented in open tanks with gentle extraction by pumping over and then pressed and racked into second and third fill French oak barrels for 12 months. This adds complexity and structure to the soft natural tannins. 5 % New American Oak.
- We finish on oak and spice and all things nice with the The Gypsy Syrah. Wild, spicy and full of concentrated red fruit, nutmeg and cinnamon. A hand-picked selection of the first ripest fruit, taken to the cellar and cool soaked prior to fermentation, then taken to new French oak barrels for 12 months. At this point a further selection takes place before blending and the final blend goes back to new barrels to marry and harmonise over the following 12 months. After almost 2 years languishing in a cool cellar the Gypsy is stable with the oak and intense fruit totally harmonised. A very concentrated, focussed blend, with layers of deep fruit.
Serious wines, for (not very) serious folk...Should be an absolute spanker!!
