We start with a single vineyard South African Chenin, the Arendsig 'Inspirational Batch 3' - hand selected grapes, individually numbered bottles, and all from one single vineyard...when the Safas do it right, they are really unbeatable! Next up is a McLaren Vale Shiraz from Mitolo, the 'Angela' - full on spice, dark chocolate and liquorice. Rich and seductive. We finish the a true great, and a Barry fav...well an 'everyone who has ever tasted it' fav if we are honest...the truly unforgettable 2016 Pine Ridge Napa Valley Cab Sav. Arendsig 'Inspirational Batch 3' Chenin Blanc- Buy it here

The Western Cape makes some sensational Chenins and this is one of the best...On the nose, yellow apple, pineapple, nuts, spice and white pear. On the palate it is rich, broad, great depth of flavor with well-balanced acidity.

Clay soils and a Mediterranean macro climate help create the distinctive and seductive wine, so does a South Eastern breeze during summer, morning fog in winter and a big variation in day & night temperatures. The vineyard is located between the Langeberg and Riviersonderend Mountain ranges which, along with the Breede River help keep things cool and fix the great acidity in this wine.

This wine is deep, bright crimson in colour with fresh aromas of black plum and blackcurrant blended with subtle mint and dried herbs. On the palate, there are complex flavours of dark chocolate, ripe cherry and bay leaf which are balanced with bright acidity. This is an elegant, medium bodied wine.

Mitolo is a family owned winery established in 1999 by Frank Mitolo. Mitolo's vision is to create individual, handcrafted premium wines built on passion and an uncompromising commitment to quality. The grapes were destemmed and crushed gently, then pumped over once daily for around ten days. The ferment was kept cool throughout in an attempt to extract the tannins, colour and flavour very softly and to hold onto the pure fruit characters that are a signature for Mitolo.

The 2016 vintage in Napa was near-perfect. The growing season started early and saw ideal weather conditions throughout the vintage. The berries were hand harvested at night, carefully sorted and destemmed to tank, where fermentation took place. Then, the wine was racked to 35% new American oak barrels, where it was aged for 18 months prior to bottling.

With layered aromas of fresh red raspberry, blackberry pie and ripe cassis, this deep ruby wine captures the senses with fragrant dried violet, ginger snap, dark cocoa and sweet basil impressions. The palate opens with red cherry, juicy blueberry and red plum fruits that intermingle with hints of cinnamon stick and pie crust. The complex array of flavours lasts through the lingering finish, framed by velvety tannins and echoes of cherry cordial and roasted espresso bean.
