Sparkling Red Wine - Grape to Grain Wine Tasting

We get more and more requests for chilled sparkling red wines, ya bunch of weirdos, so figure we should go real deep and show what's possible. That's exactly what we did! Let's take a look back at the stars of our sparkling red wine tasting.

Peter Lehman Black Queen Sparkling Shiraz [£44]

  • Peter Lehman Black Queen Sparkling Shiraz is truly special stuff and the clear winner of our tasting. A deep inky colour which is surprisingly refreshing. Peter Lehmann has really struck a balance between indulgence and acidity. Look out for concentrated flavours of satsumas, plums and black cherry. A celebratory sparkling red.

Halfpenny Green Sparkling Red [£40.50]

  • Halfpenny Green Sparkling Red displays a smooth and uplifting effervescence with luscious bubbles that will imbue the palate with notes of black cherry and dark forest fruits. These black forest flavours are perhaps a nod to the Rondo grape variety. Rondo has garnered much acclaim in Germany. Here, it is blended with the always welcome Pinot Noir. Complex and delicious. Hats off to Halfpenny.

Campestral Tinto Pet Nat Ancestral [£35]

  • A natural sparkling red from the south of Spain. A really surprising offering, with heaps more substance than many 'natural' wines. A blend of five red grapes provides the wine with notable tannins and structure, yet it is light and refreshing, (partly due to the carbonation).

Vecchia Modena Lambrusco Sorbara [£25]

  • Lambrusco suffered a bit of an image crisis, due to some sub-par examples being pumped out in the 20th century. However, exceptional versions of this style of wine can be found throughout northern Italy. This is a lively Lambrusco from Emilia-Romagna, made from the Sorbara grape variety. Fruity and floral, with a delightful cherry pink colour. This delicate wine will offer up flavours of wild berries, tangerine and violets.
