Brand: Brolo Dei Giusti
Grapes: Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella
Vintage: 2015
ABV: 14.5%
Who/What/How:
- In Italian, 'Brolo' refers to a walled vineyard similar to the French term 'Clos'. Cantina Valpantena takes this wine from three separate 'Broli' which amounts to just 13 hectares of vines. They have aimed to reduce spraying, eliminate weed killers and control water consumption. All this has led to them achieving the VIVA Sustainable Viticulture certification.
Taste:
- In Italy, Superiore denotes a wine which is allowed to have higher alcohol levels than is usually permitted. Although, this stills sits at a relatively constrained 14.5%. The wine is partially made from dried grapes and has spent around four years in various forms of oak. All this provides their flagship Brolo Dei Giusti Valpolicella Superiore with an intensity and complexity that is hard to match. You'll experience notes of mellow fresh red fruits, (in particularly cherries), dried redcurrant, violet, mixed spices and bitter almond.
