Who/What/How:
- Since their founding in 1970, El Coto have established themselves as one of the best-known producers in Rioja. Currently, they have 800 hectares of vineyards which span across the three sub-zones of Rioja, (Alta, Alavesa and Rioja Oriental). This wine comes from their newest property which is ideal for white wine, as the vines reach 900 meters above sea level.
Taste:
- El Coto 875m Finca Carbonera Chardonnay was gentle pressed at the winery before being fermented in 100% new, untoasted French oak barrels. The wine is then aged on lees, before spending 10 weeks in oak prior to bottling. All this points to a white wine which a marked smoothness, along with notes of toast, vanilla, smoke and hazelnut. You'll also note that it retains acidity and ripe tropical and stone fruit flavours.
