Brand: Tucumen
Grapes: Chardonnay
Vintage: 2018
ABV: 13%
Who/What/How:
- This is a wine from top Argentinian producer Bodegas Budeguer under their ‘Tucumen’ range. ‘Tucu’ refers to the name of their family home and ‘Men’ is a nod to the Mendoza wine region. However, it is a new, single vineyard offering from their Redeo del Medio estate in Maipú, (a small sub-section of the Mendoza region).
Taste:
- The presence of oak ageing is the most striking element of the Tucumen Reserve Chardonnay. It has been aged for 7 months. 30% of which has been fermented in first use French and American oak barrels. This adds a delightful texture to the wine, but it also imparts these big and booming notes of fresh vanilla pods and toasted coconut. However, the altitude and careful harvesting also means that the wine retains notes of apricot, nectarine and banana.
